Back in 2009 I set up Wildlife Photography Blog as a blog aggregator to showcase the work of a small number of fellow wildlife photography bloggers. In the space of a few short months it had over a hundred bloggers signed up and a Twitter following of 18,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four years later, changes to the Twitter API and personal circumstances meant that I reluctantly switched it off. Despite that, its Twitter following continued to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Social Bit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wildlife Photography Blog was always about doing this together. Some of my best experiences have been bumping into another photographer on a shoot and sharing stories. I don’t get much time to get out with a camera these days – but I do still enjoy seeing what other wildlife photographers are getting up to. So I’ve decided to go for another try – to showcase some of the best work that is out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Technical Bit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The original site ran off a home-built Linux web-server in the hallway of an east London flat. The site was integrated with the Twitter API so that every time a member created a new blog post WPB found the post by from its RSS feed, created a thumbnail of the photo, tweeted the photo and link to Twitter and posted it as an entry on the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
