Back in 2009 I set up Wildlife Photography Blog as a blog aggregator to showcase the work of a small number of fellow wildlife photography bloggers. In the space of a few short months it had over a hundred bloggers signed up and a Twitter following of 18,000.
Four years later, changes to the Twitter API and personal circumstances meant that I reluctantly switched it off. Despite that, its Twitter following continued to grow.
The Social Bit
Wildlife Photography Blog was always about doing this together. Some of my best experiences have been bumping into another photographer on a shoot and sharing stories. I don’t get much time to get out with a camera these days – but I do still enjoy seeing what other wildlife photographers are getting up to. So I’ve decided to go for another try – to showcase some of the best work that is out there.
The Technical Bit
The original site ran off a home-built Linux web-server in the hallway of an east London flat. The site was integrated with the Twitter API so that every time a member created a new blog post WPB found the post by from its RSS feed, created a thumbnail of the photo, tweeted the photo and link to Twitter and posted it as an entry on the site.
